Frequently asked questions

What is birth trauma therapy?

Birth trauma therapy focuses on addressing and healing from the psychological and emotional distress caused by challenging or traumatic childbirth experiences. It involves various gentle therapeutic techniques aimed at helping new mothers process their feelings, understand the negative event, and move towards recovery.

Who can benefit from this therapy?

This therapy is designed for any mother or birth partner who may be struggling with their childbirth experience. This can include feelings of fear, helplessness, or loss of control during labour or birth, persistent re-experiencing of the event, anxiety, sadness or detachment from the baby or others.

What types of therapy do you offer?

I offer two types of therapeutic approaches tailored to each individual's needs: Birth Reflection Sessions, and Birth Trauma Resolution Therapy. My treatments are intended to help you manage your feelings, improve your emotional wellbeing, and restore your sense of peace towards overcoming birth trauma.

How do I know if I need therapy?

If you're experiencing ongoing distress, flashbacks, panic attacks, sleeping difficulties related to your birthing experience, or if you're finding it difficult to bond with your baby, therapy may be beneficial. I encourage you to reach out for a consultation to discuss your specific experiences and assess your needs.

What can I expect in the first therapy session?

The first session is primarily a platform to understand your personal history, the details of your birth experience, and how it has affected you. It's a safe space for you to share your story as little or as much as you wish and discuss your feelings without judgment. Following on I will suggest a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Is the therapy confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of my practice. Everything discussed in sessions is kept private, except in cases where there is a legal duty to report, such as direct threats of harm to oneself or others.

Can I bring my baby to therapy sessions?

The sessions will include some periods of deep relaxation therefore it would not be possible to bring baby to your appointment.

How long does therapy usually last?

The duration of therapy varies depending on individual needs and the specific therapy approach used. Some mothers find significant relief within a few sessions, while others might engage in therapy for a longer period. We typically review progress regularly and adjust the treatment plan as needed.
