A Little About Myself

After a 40 year career in the NHS in Nursing and Midwifery, I began training as a Birth Trauma Resolution Practitioner with Jennifer Mullan - psychotherapist. Her pioneering work is helping many birthing people and birth partners deal with their trauma and move forward with their lives. I am also qualified and experienced as a holistic therapist and provide massage and wellbeing treatments.

My approach to birth trauma therapy is based on listening, helping you to understand and process your feelings in a safe place, and always providing confidential and empathetic support.

About Helen

The ethos of Born to Talk

I have set up Born to Talk first and foremost to provide a bespoke gentle service. This website is intended to be a landing point and a place of help for anyone going through difficult post-birth emotions. My birth trauma therapy is empathy-centred care, with a holistic approach that is aimed towards healing and release in an environment of confidentiality and trust.

My therapy is entirely in person, and takes place in a tranquil, rural location, where you will not be interrupted, and you can talk freely without judgement.

Empathetic guidance

Birth trauma does not necessarily arise from a life-threatening event. For many events during pregnancy, labour or after baby has been born can be felt as traumatic. There may be feelings such as a loss of control, jeopardy, uncertainty or helplessness, which will affect your ability to enjoy your new family life and think about your birth positively. Whatever you are going through, you are not alone. I offer empathetic and supportive birth trauma therapy to help you move forward and begin your healing journey.

How I can help

I offer a safe space in a quiet rural location in Bedfordshire, where you can explore your feelings, emotions, and trauma without judgement or interruption. I offer two types of listening therapy in particular, Birth Reflection Sessions, and Birth Trauma Resolution Therapy. These sessions help you to process emotions and give you an outlet for your experience in a safe place, with the guidance of myself as an experienced midwife, practitioner, and mother of 2 children throughout.

What is birth trauma?

Every birth story is unique – it is how you feel about your experience that matters. Whether your birth experience was straightforward or complex I offer birth trauma therapy that will help you to deal with the memory and move forward with your life.

Common symptoms of post-birth trauma

  • Anxiety or panic about the birth and the thought of having another
  • Revisiting it repeatedly and experiencing nightmares or flashbacks
  • Avoiding talking about the experience with others
  • Questioning why things happened the way they did

If you see yourself in any of the above contact me here. If I cannot help you directly there are many resources available to help you access the care you need.
